RefectoCil Intensifying Primer - Medium Effect

Pre-Tint Priming Step for A Softer, More Subtle Skin-Staining Effect Skin Staining

RefectoCil Intensifying Primer is an optional pre-treatment used before eyebrow tinting to prepare the skin for a more even tint result. The Medium Effect version is formulated to produce a softer, more subtle skin-staining effect, giving artists a way to fine-tune how much the tint reads on the skin versus the brow hair itself. Used as the first step in the Intense Brow[n]s system, ahead of the Base Gel and Activator Gel, it's applied for a short dwell time and removed before the tinting process continues, making it a quick add-in rather than a separate service.

    Product details

    • Trend/Popularity: Skin-staining, "powder brow" style tint results are in high demand, and a dedicated primer step lets artists offer that effect on request rather than relying on tint dwell time alone.
    • Ease & Speed: The primer adds one short, standardized step to an existing tinting sequence rather than requiring a separate freehand technique, keeping the extra effect quick to deliver.
    • Income Opportunity: Offering a customizable staining effect (light vs. intense) supports upselling a premium brow-tint option to clients chasing a stronger, more defined look.

Brow artists offering a skin-staining or powder-brow-style tint will use this as their controllable intensity step. Clients with sparse or fine brow hair benefit most, since the medium effect adds visible definition on the skin between hairs. Salons offering tiered brow-tint pricing can use it to justify a premium "intense" add-on service. It is not intended as a standalone product for clients who only want the hair itself tinted.

    • FOR PROFESSIONAL ONLY
    1. Apply Intense Brow[n]s Intensifying Primer to clean, dry brows.
    2. Leave on for 4 minutes.
    3. Remove with a dry Q-tip.
    4. Continue with Intense Brow[n]s Base Gel (leave on 2 minutes, remove with a dry Q-tip).
    5. Finish with Intense Brow[n]s Activator Gel (leave on 1 minute, remove with a moist cotton ball).
    • Mixing the Intensifying Primer directly with the Base Gel: the two are meant to be applied and removed as separate steps, not combined. Apply, wait, and remove each product on its own.
    • Leaving the primer on longer than 4 minutes hoping for a stronger effect: can cause uneven or unpredictable staining. Stick to the stated dwell time and choose the Strong version instead if more effect is wanted.
    • Skipping the dry Q-tip removal step: leftover primer can interfere with how the Base Gel develops. Remove fully before continuing.
    • Using it as a required step for every client: it's an optional add-in, not a mandatory part of tinting, and unnecessary use adds time without client benefit.
    • Applying to irritated or broken skin: can increase sensitivity. Check the skin condition before including this step.

    Ingredients & Cautions

Aqua, Alcohol denat., Polysorbate 20, Carbomer, Safflower Flower / (Achillea Millefolium / Calendula Officinalis Flower / Leaf / Stem) / (Vaccinium Myrtillus / Vitex Agnus-Castus Fruit) / Rhus Chinensis Gall / (Camellia Sinensis / Nettle Leaf) / Dichroa Febrifuga Root / Grape Seed / (Juniperus Communis Stem/Leaf) / Acacia Catechu Wood / Goldenrod / Hypericum Perforatum Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Erythrulose.

Caution: Contains alcohol denat. — avoid use on broken or irritated skin, and keep away from the eyes.

When should I reach for the Strong Effect instead of the Medium Effect, or the other way around?

The choice comes down to how much of a skin-staining, powder-brow look the client wants underneath the hair tint itself — Medium gives a softer stain while Strong pushes it further. It's worth doing a small test area on a new client before committing to Strong on their full brow.

Why did the staining effect come out patchy instead of even?

Uneven skin prep is the most common cause — any leftover oil, makeup, or dead skin can cause the primer to absorb unevenly. Degreasing thoroughly with an eye make-up remover or saline solution before this step usually resolves it.

Can I skip the Base Gel and go straight from Primer to Activator Gel?

No — the Base Gel is what actually carries the tint colour, so skipping it means the Primer step won't translate into a coloured result. The sequence needs all three steps in order to work as intended.

Does using the Intensifying Primer change how long the final tint lasts?

It mainly affects how much colour reads on the skin rather than how long the tint holds on the hair itself, so retention should track with the Base Gel and Activator Gel combination used. It's an intensity control, not a longevity booster.

Is it safe to use this step on a client getting their first-ever tint?

Since it's an added intensity step rather than a core requirement, it's reasonable to skip it on a first-time client and add it in a later appointment once you know how their skin and hair respond to tinting in general.
