A beginner guide to hybrid eyelash extensions
Have you heard about the famous hybrid lash set? They are also called ‘mixed sets’. These are often chosen by clients who aren’t sure what kind of look they want. They want the lashes to look natural, but they still want the lashes to stand out, but not as much as volume. This is why a hybrid set is their preferred choice, because it’s the perfect in between!
There are training sessions for classic sets (beginners) and volume sets (advanced lash artists), but no training for hybrid sets! Don’t worry, we got you!
As long as you master and understand the basics of lash extensions, such as mappings you’ll be able to achieve this look. We’ll explain to you how to achieve amazing hybrid sets.
Hybrid lashes are a combination of classic lashes and volume lashes.
If you are new in the lash field, you are probably wondering if you need to take a volume lash course before offering hybrid sets and the answer is: not necessarily!
This look can be done using Promades for the volume part.
How to do a hybrid set?
First of all, there is no universal rule when it comes to accomplishing this set, but we have some suggestions that can make things easier for you.
- Analyze your clients face and choose a lash map like you would usually do for any lash sets.
- Put the classic lashes first. Fill half of the natural lashes according to the mapping chosen. Leave some natural lashes for the volume ones. We suggest you use lashes of 0.15 mm diameter. You can find some here.
- Then, you can add some volume lashes. We suggest you use volume fans of 3D with 0.07 diameter. That way, you create a nice consistency through the set. You can either hand make your fans or buy them pre made here.
- & Voilà !

Can I choose any mappings?
The answer is yes. You can achieve doll eyes, cat eyes and open eyes with the hybrid look, but keep in mind that the look itself requires more than just the type of lash used in order to be beautiful. You also need to consider the curls used. Make sure that the classic lashes used and the volume lashes used are the same curls. Otherwise, it might create inconsistency in the set.
Keep in mind that your lash mapping won’t be as clear as one for a volume or classic set. This is because we are using a mix of classic and volume fans. For sets done in the hybrid style, it will mean we will be using less lashes and will also give an enhanced natural look for your client’s eyes but without drastically changing their natural eye shape!
If you want to create texture in the set, we suggest you check out our article about the Kim K look. We explain there how to achieve a hybrid Kim K look. It will make your clients eyes look bigger.
How much should I charge for hybrid sets?
Since hybrid sets are a look in between classic and volume sets, we suggest you charge in between those two sets, which means, more than a classic set, but less than a volume set.
It could take you more time than a classic set since in the middle of the session, you’ll need to take some time to adjust to other kinds of lashes, but it won’t be as long as doing a volume set.
Does it fit everyone?
Not necessarily. It depends on everyone's tastes. Some people have more natural lashes than others. If your client likes a more natural look, hybrids might look good on them and fulfill their wishes.
On the other hand, if your client is more into dramatic looks and likes the full volume look, they might not be happy with a hybrid look, but it all depends on many factors, such as the amount of natural lashes they have.
Make sure to take the time to explain to your clients the differences between the sets. You want your clients to be happy and to come back. Ask them if they have a picture of what they want, and that way, it will be easier for you to give them the look they want.
A hybrid set could be the perfect combination for your clients in order to give them more volume than a classic set, but less than a volume set with some texture. For the right client, hybrid lashes can look absolutely stunning and is a worthwhile style to invest in perfecting.
